The Nasir, Bekri, Tayi and Lawrence Tribute Trek — MISSION COMPLETE

احتفالاً بالرحلة التاريخية للشريف ناصر والبكري وأبو تايه ولورانس العرب

In 1917, T.E. Lawrence, Auda Abu Tayi, Sherif Nasir and Nesib el Bekri, crossed the Hejaz mountains and the Nefud Plain to enter Aqaba from the land and liberate the city from the Turks.  Because this was such an iconic action and the forerunner to modern-day Special Forces operations, members of the Special Forces Club, and in aid of the Special Forces Club Benevolent Fund, decided to recreate that Trek and become the first people to complete it on camelback since Lawrence himself did it.

The SF Club riders set off from Al Wajh in Saudi Arabia and, staying loyal to the original route, 25 days later, having crossed the Hejaz Mountains twice and the vast and “uncrossable” plain that skirts the Nefud Desert, sandstorms, quicksand and temperatures ranging from minus 5 to plus 37, they entered Aqaba to be greeted by thousands of well-wishers.

14 January 2025 – 7 February 2025  - 25 Days – 1,100kilometres (685 Miles).

The Trek raised over £600,000 for the Special Forces Club Benevolent Fund

In honour of Sherif Nasir, Nesib el Bekri, Auda Abu Tayi, T.E Lawrence and the 41 brave souls who in 1917 rode 685 miles across the “uncrossable” from Al Wajh (Saudi) to Aqaba (Jordan).

THE MISSION

In January 2025 five volunteer members of SFC will retrace the epic steps of Nasir, Bekri, Abu Tayi and T.E. Lawrence, by retracing their steps and riding camels the entire route.

Their mission: to raise funds through your donations to the SFC Benevolent Fund.

The ride will take 25 days, the riders and camels will cover 50 kilometres a day and camp overnight.

The five riders and 10 camels will climb the Hejaz mountains up to the Nefud Plain, then take the long ride of 250 kilometers across the Nefud to the Tubarjal oasis before heading north-west to Jordan before turning south-west to Bayir and Mraigha before crossing the finish line at the historic site of Aqaba fort.

Each rider is assigned two camels to ensure a camel is rested every other day and the Trek will be accompanied by three support vehicles with medical and camel-care expertise.

The riders and support crew will live on sustenance rations throughout the trek.

“The Special Forces Club Benevolent Fund supports those who put themselves on the line for our country and who have now fallen on hard times and can’t or won’t, because of the nature of the extraordinary service they gave, access alternative sources of support. This trek celebrates one of the foundational special forces campaigns and raises essential funds for those in need.”

- The Lord Sedwill, GCMG FRGS. President, The Special Forces Club.
